When we decided to drive up for Memorial Day, we knew traffic would be bad. We decided to take the 250-mile-ish route and go through Leesburg, VA, up to Gettysburg, PA and East through Amish country. We figured that if we were going to spend four plus hours driving, we might as well be exploring beautiful country and not sitting in the parking lot that is I-95 in Delaware. Well, shortly before Gettysburg, Will fell asleep. I swear he told me to turn off at York. We were really supposed to turn on to a different highway to get to York. When Will woke up, we were in Harrisburg. So, while we were there, we took a detour and went to Hershey Park. We rode roller coasters and had a fabulous time. Toward the end I think we were getting a little tired. We went on a water coaster that soaked us and then I left my cell phone in a bumper car. But, we had a wonderful time and made it to New Hope in the wee hours of the morning.
Since we missed Amish country over Memorial Day, we decided to go that way again when we went to New Hope for the Fourth of July. We made the turn to York and drove through some amazing, lush farmland. I even talked Will into taking me on a carriage ride around some of the farms and then we explored the grounds of an old church. This was capped off with me spending all of the cash in my wallet buying bread, cookies, jam and cabbage from some very cute Amish kids selling it on the side of the road.
Exploring is fun. I need to remember to keep changing up my routine paths.

I love Harrisburg! I'm glad you got lost and ended up there. And Amish country is still one of my favorite drives ever taken! You're living my dream of living in that area11
The water-coaster was pretty fun. It was around 9 o'clock or so, so it was getting chilly out and we saw this roller coaster that nobody was riding, there was a sign saying to walking in a certain path to not get wet, so we thought maybe we could ride the ride and not get too wet. We got up to the top and there was nobody in line, so we asked the attendants if the ride was open and if we'd get really wet, they replied yes and yes. The first clue that we were about to get soaked should've been the fact that we had to brush huge puddles of water out of the seats, but there was no line so we went ahead with it. First thing the coaster does is go under a sheet of water soaking us both. I pretty much laughed non-stop from that point to the end of the ride at how silly we were to think that we wouldn't get wet. Sara wasn't as amused as I was.
Oh, and I gave her the wrong directions, that's why we missed the turn.
That is so fun that you take a different route every time! I have always wanted to tour Amish country, I am not sure why but it seems pretty cool. Glad you posted! Love you
What fun adventures you guys are having. Hey, if it works with your schedule in December, we would love to see you guys. If you need a place to stay we have lots of room. Or if we can meet up with you somewhere. That would be so fun to see you.
